TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, in his speech at the introductory meeting held at the terminal building under construction, said, "The new terminal complex is a good income and investment, we have done a very profitable job. We are counting the days for the opening of the new terminal of the airport." said. Arıklı stated that they foresee the date of November 15, the 39th anniversary of the TRNC, for the opening, but since the missing devices have not yet arrived, they will wait for the devices to be brought to the country in order to perform a full, not partial, opening.

Minister Arıklı noted that the new terminal building with a capacity of 10 million passengers is the biggest investment of the TRNC with an expenditure of approximately 300 million Euros and said that there is no airport of this size and capacity even in Southern Cyprus.
